In this season of giving, we can get lost in the long list of who we want to give to and how to stretch out the money we have amongst everyone. I believe most of us in our heart of hearts desire to give above and beyond what our bank accounts allow. We were born with a giving spirit.
For me, because of my super busy life, I don't usually get into the Christmas spirit until I hear the Carols being played on the radio right after Thanksgiving. I always plan to be that shopper who gets everything done BEFORE the hectic season begins, but that hasn't played out as of yet! lol As much as I am a planner, Christmas always seems to suddenly appear, reminding me that another year is almost over again...
Would you agree that you get great joy in giving?
Kenneth Copeland, in his book, "The Blessing of the Lord" reminds us that right after baby Jesus was born, the angel delivered God's message saying "I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people"(Luke 2:10). The shepherds had never experienced that kind of supernatural joy, that true joy that comes from God working in us. Kenneth Copeland adds that this "great joy" that the angel talked about was a huge part of the restoration between God and man that was stolen in the garden of Eden. Now that we have Jesus, the world around us should be able to clearly see joy in us.
The dictionary definition of Joy is "the emotion evoked by well-being, success, or good fortune or by the prospect of possessing what one desires". Joy automatically wells up in us when we understand that we do possess EVERYTHING we desire. That's why Jesus came and died... to give us access to everything the Father has for us!
Phil. 2:2 "Fulfill my joy, that you be likeminded, being of one accord, of one mind."
Because God gave his most precious gift for us- Jesus... He expects us to give of ourselves everyday in whatever areas He has graced us in. That will look different for everyone. In order to experience that true JOY that the angel brought to us that Christmas night long ago, we must be givers.
